Afro-Caribbean art has long been a platform for political and social activism. The works of artists like JanJak II and Joseph Racine Jr confront issues like corruption, economic disparity, and post-colonial struggles. The question is whether modern forms of artistic expression, particularly more abstract or minimalist styles, can maintain this activist role. Can abstract art that may not directly reference Caribbean history or politics still act as a powerful tool for change?

Proponents of modern approaches argue that activism in art does not always have to be literal. Artists like Aramis Hamer and mario Benjamin combine vibrant colors and abstract compositions with underlying themes that address African and Caribbean empowerment, migration, and identity. Even without overt political symbols, these works challenge the viewer to reflect on the complexity of Caribbean life and its global intersections.
