1. Edna Manley (1900–1987)
Widely considered the "mother of Jamaican art," Edna Manley was a British-born sculptor who deeply influenced Caribbean art in the 20th century. Though not of African descent herself, she was deeply inspired by Afro-Caribbean themes and fought to give a voice to the Caribbean's black identity through her work. Manley's work, particularly her sculptures, often captured the spirit of the Jamaican people and addressed themes of freedom, empowerment, and the Afro-Caribbean struggle for independence. Her influence on Jamaican art, both as an artist and as a cultural advocate, paved the way for future generations of Afro-Caribbean women to express their identities through art.

2. Rose-Marie Desruisseaux (1942–1988)
A celebrated Haitian artist, Rose-Marie Desruisseaux was a trailblazer who represented the strength and grace of Haitian women in her paintings. Her work is characterized by its vibrant colors and depictions of women in everyday life, often set against the backdrop of Haiti’s lush landscapes. Desruisseaux's art highlights the vital role that women play in Haitian society and culture, while also offering a poignant commentary on the struggles they face. Through her depictions of women, she sought to uplift the image of the Afro-Caribbean woman and provide a source of pride for future generations.

3. Lois Mailou Jones (1905–1998)
Lois Mailou Jones, though born in the U.S., had deep connections to Haiti and Africa, and her work strongly reflected Afro-Caribbean and African themes. An important figure in the Harlem Renaissance and a champion of African heritage, Jones incorporated Haitian Vodou symbols, African masks, and Caribbean landscapes into her paintings. She used her art as a form of cultural preservation, ensuring that the rich traditions of African and Afro-Caribbean cultures were given prominence in a Western-dominated art world. Jones’s legacy as a teacher and mentor further cemented her role in shaping future generations of Afro-Caribbean and African-American artists.
